THE WILTSHIRE
ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY CONSTITUTION

Name:
The Society shall be known as the Wiltshire Astronomical Society and is
referred to below as the Society.
Aim
of the Society:
Promote all aspects of astronomy within the catchment area of North and
West Wiltshire.
Exchange of ideas and information about astronomy in general.
Provide an astronomical education to the general public within the
catchment area.
News submissions to the media and talks to schools and other societies
within the area will achieve this.
Membership:
The Society shall be open anyone with an interest in astronomy.
The Society intend to offer the following levels of membership

Single
membership

Family
membership
·
Junior
membership
The
annual fee for membership is agreed at the AGM
Membership entitles you to:

Hire
of club telescope
·
Free
Newsletter
·
Borrowing
of society equipment: slides, books or magazine
·
Voting
rights at AGM and EGM meetings
Meetings:
Meetings will be held monthly and proceedings needing recording will be
submitted to members in the next newsletter/web site.
Evening fee will be regulated by cost of hire of hall, but covers entry
fee, and coffee for the evening. This will be set at the AGM each year.
Visitors will pay the fee for the first visit and double thereafter.
Viewing evenings will be arranged as conditions allow or special events
are due.
Trips may be organised throughout the season.
Committee:
The committee will be elected at the AGM held every year.
A quorum will be 4 members of the committee.
The committee shall comprise of at least a chairperson, a treasurer,
membership secretary, and up to six other members with duties agreed by
the committee and the membership informed of these positions.
The committee shall meet as required.
General
Meetings:
The AGM will be held in June;
Should receive minutes from the previous AGM;
Set annual subscription rate and other moneys due;
Allow discussion and resolutions from the general membership on the
management and activities of the Society;
Elect officers of the committee;
The
outgoing chairperson shall conduct the AGM until the new committee has
been elected.
Extraordinary
General Meetings may be called for on receipt of a written request from
at least 10 percent of the members to the Chairperson.
